| The East Cavalry Battlefield at Gettysburg is on farmland just 3 miles east of Gettysburg, It is where cavalry forces various weapons and fighting techniques known to mounted troops. The two of the most colorful of the time, General James Ewell Brown (J.E.B.) Stuart, the Confederate Cavalier, and George Armstrong Custer, fought here. General Custer rode to the front of the 1st Michigan Cavalry and the cry, "Come on, you Wolverines!", he turned unto the Confederate charge and the Union horsemen followed with sabers drawn. After the battle General Stuart led his cavalry off the field and conceded to the battered but victorious Union cavalry. This was where the South's greatest cavalry leader had finally met his match. |
