| The battle raged on at McPherson's Ridge on July 1, 1863 where the Union lost. They were repelled by the Confederates to East Cemetery Hill where they held their line. The Evergreen Cemetery was part of the battlefield in 1863 and sustained many bullet holes during the battle. The brick gatehouse was used as a hospital for the wounded. |
