Here, in the early hours of the Battle of Gettysburg, Union General Buford's Cavalry Division battled the Confederates under General Heth. Buford's men occupied the McPherson farm, and soon encountered the Confederates at nearby Willoughby Run. The Northerners were reinforced by General Reynolds.
