A peach orchard belonging to farmer Joseph Sherfy was used as a haven for Union artillery batteries, and these batteries ceaselessly attempted to drive back the enemy. Around 6:30 in the evening of the second day of battle, General Barksdale of Mississippi and his men thwarted the Union guns with a valiant charge.
