   General Longstreet's Confederates were secreted in these dense woods. When soldiers under General Sickles patrolled this area, they found themselves face to face with the enemy. This slight skirmish bore evidence to the Union of the dangers of the enemy crouched therein. The Union eventually fell back to Cemetery Hill.
