| This day is closely associated with New Years; before the modern calendar came into worldwide usage, New Year's Day was observed on April 1st. After the calendar change, many people didn't care to change the observance and still celebrated on April 1st, gaining the name "April Fools." Americans have elevated April Fools Day to much higher status in the last decades, coming up with all sorts of pranks and ploys for their unsuspecting fellow man. |
