Easter is a Christian holiday celebrating the day Jesus Christ rose from the dead. Church services are customary on this day, as well as the reading of the Easter story. The date on which Easter was celebrated was decided around the time of the Council of Nicaea, which occurred in 325 A.D. More famous Easter staples such as the Easter bunny and colored eggs is rooted in older European traditions that occurred before Christianity was widespread. Animals born in the spring were a symbol of the fertility of the season.
