Celebrated early in February, Groundhog Day is a lighthearted holiday that is meant to predict the length of wintry conditions left in the season. Pennsylvanians look to Punxsutawney Phil the groundhog as he "broadcasts" live each year; if he sees his shadow or not will tell how many more weeks of winter are left. In olden days, people believed they could use certain animals to show them how much winter weather was left by watching their hibernation habits. The Pennsylvania Dutch are credited with starting the groundhog phenomenon in America.
