There are two kinds of Halloween - historical and modern. The historical dates back to the pagans of ancient days, who celebrated a festival known as Samhain that had many of the rituals we associate with Hallloween, such as people giving out candy to appease anyone who might come to their door. The modern holiday is made up of children going door-to-door in dazzling, colorful costumes, asking for a sweet treat. It is believed by many that Halloween was in part brought to America by Irish immigrants who celebrated a form of the day in their home country.
