| The concept of Labor Day began in 1882 when a band of New Yorkers decided to honor the contributions of the hard workers of their city. A parade commenced, and the day became known as Labor Day. As the 1880s went on, more pressure mounted for the day to be officially recognized, and finally just before the turn of the last century, Congress agreed to make Labor Day a holiday. |
