People of the Orthodox Christian faith do not celebrate Christmas on December 25th, but on January 6th. In some parts of the world, the Julian calendar is still used, hence the difference in dates. In the Ukraine, Christmas is celebrated by a huge family meal known as the Sviata Vecheria, or holy supper. Families do not eat until the first star in the sky appears, as it represents the star that shone over the Christ Child. In Russia, certain foods are served as symbols of Christmas -- hope, peace, etc.
