Also known as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day honors the struggles and triumphs of World I and other wartime battles. The date of November 11 was chosen because on that day in 1918, Europe and America rejoiced at the ending of the first World War. Remembrance Day is mostly celebrated as a memorial to armed forces, honoring those who lost their lives. The traditional flower of the World War I, the poppy, which was widespread in the countries where the war was fought, is sometimes included in ceremonies. Silence is generally observed for a few minutes.
