This is the Jewish holiday commemorating the harvest season in Israel when the first fruits were brought to the Temple also known as (the Festival of the First Fruits). The name Shavuot is Jewish for "weeks", refers to the festival which is held in the 7 weeks after Passover. It is also the anniversary of the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai to Moses. It is not tied to a particular calendar date, but to a counting from Passover. One of the customs is to stay up all of the first night of Shavuot and study The Torah, and following that to then pray very early the next morning. Another part of the custom is that no work is permitted in this time. It is also know as The Feast of Weeks.
