Milk is the official state beverage, as enacted by the General Assembly on April 29, 1982.

Pennsylvania is 4th in milk production, butter production, and ice cream production in the United States. Dairy cows in the state produce more than 10 billion pounds of milk every year. There are over 600,000 milk cows on over 10,000 dairy farms in the state. The source of most commercial milk is the modern Holstein, bred to produce huge quantities of milk.
